Name: Andrew McDonnell

Role: Media Manager

Hometown: Newcastle, England

University Education: University of Sunderland

Degree: BA Sports Journalism (First-Class Honours)

Andrew is an award-winning sports journalist that has been in the game for over seven years now and joins SMUSA as the media manager.

After graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism in 2017, he has gone on to have several roles in sports media, including working with a soccer scholarship company, working full-time with a football club in England and working with an international academy in Spain. During his time in sports media, Andrew has also worked for several Football League clubs, has been published in regional and national newspapers, has covered cup Finals at Wembley Stadium, and is also a Premier League and EFL-accredited journalist.

Last summer, he covered the likes of Manchester United, Sheffield United, Southampton, West Ham United and Everton at Old Trafford and Goodison Park for an online media publication. His role with SMUSA will see Andrew manage all of our social media channels, edit player highlight videos, manage and create content for our website, create graphics and videos for our channels, and assist with player engagement. Andrew's knowledge of the soccer scholarship route will prove to be key within his role with the company, and having been to the U.S. and visited several colleges and universities, he knows what the scholarship route provides.

QUOTE

“I couldn’t be happier and more excited to be back working alongside Stephen. Working with someone that has full belief in your ability brings the best out in you, and being able to call Stephen a colleague once again is a pleasure. Having previously worked in the soccer scholarship industry before, it is one that I really enjoy working in and playing my role with players achieving their dreams of going to America. My aim with SMUSA is to drive the media forward on all platforms, and create engaging content on social media to help players in Ireland see the unique and exciting opportunity that is the scholarship route.”
